Discussion Questions

  1. What kind of Psalm is this? (Hint: Consider the superscription).
  2. What are common “hills” or distractions that people look to instead of God?
  3. What does it mean to “lift up your eyes” in the way the psalmist describes?
  4. Read Gen. 1:1 and Col. 1:16–17. Why is remembering God’s creative power important when we face daily struggles?
  5. How does v. 4 describe God? How does He compare with other powers/protectors in the world (e.g. parents, gov’t), and how is this a comfort?
  6. How did Jesus “lift up” His own eyes, and how can this strengthen your own faith? See Luke 9:51; 23:46; Heb. 12:2; 1 Pt. 2:23
  7. How does “lifting up your eyes” affect the way you think of the future? How can you make this psalm your own? cf. Col. 3:1–4; 1 Cor. 15:20–22.
