Discussion Questions

  1. What is consecration? How is it a necessary part of the Christian life? See Lev. 20:7–8; Jos. 3:5; Jn. 17:19 Rom. 6:13; 1 Cor. 6:19–20; 1 Pt. 2:9
  2. Why do you think Paul calls us to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice?
  3. What is worship in a narrow sense? In a broad sense? Hint: think “Gathered Worship” vs. “All-of-Life.” How must both be “spiritual” (logikos, “rational”)?
  4. How does Christian transformation happen (v. 2)? Why does it happen? See 2 Cor. 5:14–15; Eph. 4:22–24; Col. 3:1–3, 10.
  5. What are the “mercies of God” (v. 1)? Does Paul have a certain mercy in mind? See Rom. 1:17–18; 5:8–10; 8:1.
  6. How should God’s mercy motivate your devotion to Him? Gal. 2:20; Tit. 3:4–8.
  7. Get Specific: What would this kind of devotion/worship look like in your life, family, and church?
